The RUF Bergmeister and SCR showcased at The Quail at Monterey Car Week pay homage to Porsche’s racecars from the past with their bespoke art.
The recently concluded Monterey Car Week witnessed the presence of some of the best modern-day marvels, such as Bugatti Mistral Roadster, Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Hennessey Venom F5 Roadsters. However, amidst all these exclusive high-tech modern offerings, several restored and customized classic cars from the yesteryears also graced their presence at the event. One such heavily-customized car was the ‘Bergmeister’ from Germany-based RUF Automobiles.
Inspired by the iconic Porsche racecars from the past, such as Porsche 909 Bergspyder, Porsche 906, and Porsche 718 RS 60 Spyder, the RUF Bergmeister is an open-top two-seater speedster. Also known as Project RBS, this unique-looking car marked its presence at ‘The Quail’, one of the most important events of the Monterey Car Week, along with RUF SCR. The North American car market will receive the RUF SCR after two years since its production version broke the covers. In addition to the design, there’s much more to talk about the exclusivity of the RUF Bergmeister, and we will disclose all of its details here.

The credits for the overall styling of the RUF Bergmeister go to Tony Hatter, who also designed the last air-cooled version of the Porsche 911. The Bergmeister seeks inspiration from the Porsche racecars from the past, which is evident in its design highlights like curved bulges over the front fenders and rounded headlamps.
The entire bodywork of the RUF Bergmeister has extensive use of carbon fiber, which explains its light-weighted character. The rounded headlamps here have an all-LED lighting theme, which can be retro-fitted in all the Porsche 993s. The car's exterior features a few other noteworthy highlights like aggressive air intakes in the front bumper and a boot-mounted wing behind the seats, with it being a part of the rear space frame and integrated roll cage.
The RUF Bergmeister also gets an open-top roof complemented by a lower-set curved windscreen at the front. At the back, it has a custom-made tail section with redesigned tail lamps inspired by 911 Targa, with no functional rear bumper, showing clear glimpses of the massive engine. The 19-inch wheels of the Bergmeister look inspired by those of the SCR, which partially hide the color-coded carbon brakes behind them.
On the inside, the car has an essence of suaveness, with the cabin finished in black Alcantara leather upholstery. Even the tiller responsible for direct steering for precise handling comes finished in the same leather upholstery. The car gets two bucket seats finished in suede Alcantara leather, garnished with houndstooth-Esque Pepita. The dashboard here features bare-basic switches for fog lamps, fan speed, battery cut-off, and nothing else.
Retaining the original essence of the unadulterated performance of Porsche engines, the RUF Bergmeister has a 3.6-liter flat-six, air-cooled, turbocharged gas engine. Placed behind the seats, this engine gets dry sump lubrication and comes paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
With a maximum power output of 450 hp and a maximum torque output of 442 lb-ft, the engine channels all the power produced to the rear wheels via the manual gearbox and a limited-slip differential.

Alongside showcasing the Bergmeister, RUF also displayed its well-known SCR at The Quail at Monterey Car Week. Inspired by the Porsche 911 964, the RUF SCR gets bestowed with a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and body panels, which make the car extremely lightweight.
While the RUF SCR might look very similar to the Porsche 911 964, it shares not a single panel with the latter. The highlights of the exterior look of the RUF SCR include the same round-themed headlamps and low-slung tail lamps with LED illumination, center-locking double five-spoke wheels, and a retractable spoiler. The interior of this car gets a plush-looking brown leather upholstery with houndstooth Recaro sports seats and old-school analog dials.
The RUF SCR sources its power from a 4.0-liter naturally-aspirated flat-six gas engine, which makes 510 hp of maximum power and 346 lb-ft of maximum torque. Paired with a 6-speed manual for an ‘optimal mechanical feel’, the engine seeks inspiration from the old ‘Mezger’ flat-six powerhouses used in Porsche 996 and 997 GT3.
Apart from the carbon fiber monocoque chassis and body panels, the RUF SCR also gets a bespoke integrated rolls cage. For an uncompromised sporty driving experience, the SCR comes with pushrod suspension with remote reservoir Sachs dampers at both front and rear. It also has carbon ceramic brakes with six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston calipers in the back. RUF makes around 15 units of the SCR every year, and the North American market is just about to get some of these.
