Yours for $36,995 as long as you’re okay with Sao Paulo yellow.

Based on the already quick S 1000 RR, BMW Motorrad launched its first M-badged superbike, the BMW M 1000 RR in 2020. Now, as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of BMW M, the M 1000 RR gains an optional 50 Years ///M Package. This will be available in America in the third quarter of 2022, only to be joined later by the punchy M4 CSL at the four-wheeled end of the spectrum.

At this premium level, BMW Motorrad’s M package includes the striking Sao Paulo Yellow paint job, as well as GPS lap trigger unlock software, the M endurance chain, plenty of carbon fiber and milled aluminum options enhanced by a lighter silver anodized swingarm, the passenger seat and seat cover, and hopefully enough 50 Years M Anniversary badges to justify its $36,995 price tag.

Still, in case you’re looking for a somewhat more subtle superbike, the BMW M 1000 RR remains available in non-anniversary guise as well. All you need to do is select it in Light White with the M Motorsport Competition Package instead.

Blasting to 189 mph in Sao Paulo yellow or not, the M 1000 RR packs a true racing-derived water-cooled four-cylinder engine. This rev-happy gem features titanium valves with variable valve timing, two-ring forged pistons from Mahle, titanium connecting rods from Pankl, slimmer and lighter rocker arms, fully machined intake ports, and of course a titanium exhaust system for a peak output of 205 horsepower at 13,000rpm, and 83 lb-ft of torque at 11,000rpm. Interestingly, its European tune is quoted at 212 horsepower, achieved slightly higher at 14,500 rpm.

With its unladen road-ready weight at 423 pounds and zero-to-sixty performance under 3.1 seconds, it’s no wonder that the M 1000 RR comes with twin 12.6-inch brake rotors and four-piston M calipers at the front, aided by an advanced ABS system offering pro settings for rain, road, dynamic rides, as well as the race 1-3 and no ABS in race modes. Basically, if all you see is a yellow flash on the road, it must have been somebody riding the 2022 BMW M 1000 RR, complete with the new 50 Years ///M Package.
