Hewitt-Trussville 4-star defensive lineman Hunter Osborne is getting closer to a college decision.

The 6-foot-4, 250-pound standout narrowed his college suitor list from 10 to 6 on Friday.

His most recent list includes in-state powers Auburn and Alabama as well as Texas, LSU, Clemson and Tennessee.

His original Top 10, posted in March, included six schools that didn’t make the latest cut. Those were Oklahoma, Georgia, Miami, Florida, Southern Cal and Oregon.

“I think Hunter can have a great college career wherever he goes,” Hewitt-Trussville coach Josh Floyd said. “He’s got a very high ceiling. Some colleges like him out there on the edge. Some like him in the middle of the line. Either way, he has a lot of potential.”

Floyd said Osborne has had another impressive offseason.

“He’s worked really hard, put on some good weight and gotten stronger in the weight room,” Floyd said. “We’re excited for him. He’s had a good couple of weeks of spring practice as well. We are excited to see him against someone else.”

Hewitt will host Parker in a spring game May 19.

The 247 composite rankings have Osborne, an Under Armour All-American, as the No. 12 senior prospect in the state in a loaded class.

He was credited with 60 tackles, including 10 for a loss, as a junior for the Huskies. He also had 16 QB hurries, 9 pass deflections and 5.5 sacks.

He was playing on the same defensive line with Texas signee Justice Finkley.

“They are different players,” Floyd said of Finkley and Osborne. “Their style of play is a little different. Justice was really explosive off the ball. He had great get off and obviously was strong and powerful with a high motor. Hunter is taller and longer. He plays with his hands really well and is very physical. He bats a lot of balls down with his long arms.

“So they have different skill sets, but the one area where they are similar is in their work ethic. They both have done and do everything we ask of them and also do a lot on their own. They have that type of drive to succeed.”
