The four East Carolina commitments that were previously unrated by the 247Sports Composite have now received ratings, as all 13 members of the team’s current 2023 commitment list have received rankings.
The 247Sports Composite is made up of multiple prospect evaluations from different recruiting services, and not just 247Sports. There must be multiple ratings for the Composite to populate.
ECU’s class as a whole is now ranked 58th nationally and third in the American Athletic Conference. The Pirates have seven pledges from Georgia, three from North Carolina, two from South Carolina, and one from Florida.
Here’s a look at the updated four commitments and where they stand both with the Composite score, and with 247Sports.
EDGE Demoris Jenkins: The North Mecklenburg High School product debuts in the rankings with an 85 rating from 247Sports, ranking him the 93rd-best EDGE player nationally, and the 28th-best player in North Carolina. The Composite ranks Jenkins .8400 overall. He’s ranked 103rd at his position and 35th in the state.
As a bonus, here’s what 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks wrote in his weekly update on Jenkins.
“East Carolina has done a good job identifying players in Georgia and Florida so far in the 2023 recruiting cycle, but home-state prospect Demoris Jenkins should not be overlooked. In the 6-foot-5, 220-pound range, Jenkins -- a new three-star 85 on 247Sports -- owns a good frame that will easily hold more mass and raise the ceiling on his strength capacity as he faces point-of-attack conflict at the FBS level. He shows good natural athleticism that is no doubt fostered by his basketball background, which has seen him punch it in open floor.
“Jenkins may need some time to hone his technique and continue to maximize his frame potential, but he looks like another quality pickup for ECU in this class. Jenkins helped North Mecklenburg's football program to a five-win turnaround in Fall 2021, then helped the basketball team to a 27-5 mark and the North Carolina Class 4A state semifinals.”
EDGE Michael Short: Short is projected to play outside linebacker at ECU currently, but could also play inside, depending upon how his body develops. He was evaluated as a standup linebacker by 247Sports, since that’s the majority of his high school film. Short is rated 83 overall by 247Sports, and ranked the 132nd-best linebacker and the 35th-best player in North Carolina. The Composite rates him .8270, and ranks him the 123rd-best linebacker, and 36th-best player in the state.
OL Kameron Durant: An under-the-radar camp commitment out of South Carolina, Durant got a solid rating from 247Sports. He has been rated 83 overall on the three-star scale, making him the 26th-best player in South Carolina and the 121st-best interior offensive lineman nationally. The Composite scores him at .8206, ranking him the 108th-best interior lineman and the 26th-best player in the state.
OL Bryce Weaver: The local D.H. Conley product debuts in the rankings with an 82 overall mark from 247Sports, making him the 40th-best player in North Carolina and the 126th-best interior lineman nationally. He’s ranked three stars and .8156 by the 247Sports Composite as well.
