Porsche has finally shown the world its new GT3 RS. The famous German track racer is therefore ready to fight against her little competitors, and you will see that she has taken the time to sharpen her weapons.
It’s been a couple of years since Porsche marketed what is considered by many to be THE ultimate track racer: the GT3 RS. It’s not the most powerful on the market, it’s not the one that makes the most noise, it’s not the most beautiful beast of the circuit. But it is the benchmark, and has been for a long time. But for a few years now, some brands have been trying to come and titillate it in this segment. McLaren, Lamborghini, Mercedes among others… On August 17, Porsche wanted to send them all a clear message: “ the queen is her. But good try guys! ».
Launched last year, the 992 GT3 had already achieved the incredible feat of doing as well as the previous generation GT3 RS. It was already something to dream about, and it should have put a flea in the ear of the competition. But if you found the GT3 amazing, you’re going to find the RS version exceptional.
We will start with his physique, and there is already a lot to say about it. The very demonstrative body kit gives in excess. Visually, the new GT3 RS sweats hot asphalt and curbs. The doors are sheared, just behind the front wheels. Many aerodynamic appendages, some of which are active, have been grafted all over the car. Side fins, massive rear diffuser… Gills placed above the fenders are used to ventilate the wheel arches, both to cool but also to limit aerodynamic pressure. Finally, a vertical splitter, placed in the front bumper, is responsible for separating the air into two flows to properly balance the whole.
Did you think we forgot to mention the spoiler? How to ignore such a thing? Especially when it’s higher than the roof! It’s very simple, the fin alone deserves a complete article. We are starting to get used to seeing active fins, capable of braking the car by leaning. This is obviously the case with this one, which has the function “Airbrake”. But it now incorporates a DRS mode, allowing the lower plane to lower all the way to reach top speed faster (did we tell you Porsche was coming to Formula 1 soon?). In concrete terms, this XXL picnic table can generate up to 409 kg of additional support at 200 km/h. Ah yes, and this figure rises to 860 kg of support at 285 km/h.
Let’s get to the heart of the beast. Unsurprisingly, Porsche kept the 4.0 flat-six (did they have a choice under penalty of execution in the public square? Surely not!), whose power increases to 525 horsepower, 15 more than the current GT3. The car is only available with the dual-clutch PDK gearbox. In terms of performance, this new GT3 RS can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 296 km/h. This figure may seem disappointing, but remember what was written above. The GT3 RS have never been the most powerful, nor the fastest in a straight line. No, their thing is the circuit, the sequence of turns and the performance over a full lap.
And that’s why that engine alone isn’t enough to make this car amazing. She had to go through the diet box. A diet ten times more effective than » As I like « . The front fenders, bonnet, roof and bucket seats are made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP), which is lighter without compromising strength. The 20-inch front and 21-inch rear center-lock rims are forged from lightweight alloy. Moreover, they are steering at the rear as well, to increase a little more, if possible, the agility of the car. Finally, it swaps the three radiators of the old generation against a single radiator, placed in the front. More balance, and more room for active aero. Once all this is taken into account, the GT3 RS lowers its empty weight to only 1450 kg on the scale.
The prices have also been communicated by Porsche, and they are up to the machine. €234,977 for France, before options of course. And you can be sure that the list of equipment and optional packs will be long, with of course the essential Pack Weissach. The latter notably offers a good dose of extra carbon, to lighten the car even more.
Once again, Porsche is showing the rest of the world what a track racer should look like. Like that, quietly, without shaking. And speaking of shaking, that’s what all the little competitors must be doing. Mercedes already saw itself beautiful with its very edgy AMG GT Black Series. Do you see this Mercedes / Porsche duel coming? Meet at the Nurburgring to decide between these two colossi. Oh we can’t wait to see this!
