For most mortal men, the dream of owning a high-end sports car—we’re talking Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and flagship Porsches—is just that: A dream. And that says nothing of supercars that exist in an uber-luxury class all their own. This is the realm of McLaren—an iconic automaker that’s become something of a gold standard for supercars. Most of us will never know what it’s like to get behind the wheel of such a unique, million-dollar sports car. But, McLaren’s just-launched collab with independent footwear brand Athletic Propulsion Labs wants to give you a unique taste.
The result is the debut of the all-new APL McLaren HySpeed: An all-purpose luxe performance running trainer with a one-of-a-kind silhouette and future-forward footwear technology. It represents the intersection of both brands’ ethos and the alignment of their commitment to pushing the boundaries of luxury, performance, and design.

Both McLaren and APL are well-versed in construction techniques and materials that guarantee the highest level of performance. So too with the HySpeed, which feature a unique three-piece segmented midsole. The front and rear use proprietary APL FutureFoam pods strengthened with a full-length carbon fiber plate in-between. It’s all topped with a nitrogen-infused compound specially formulated for extreme compression and responsiveness. Likewise, the heel design pulls inspiration from McLaren’s Senna seats, designed to hold you firmly but comfortably in place. Think of it as a supercar frame ... for your feet.
HySpeed is the culmination of an exacting, multi-year process. The team experimented with proprietary compounds, all-new upper architecture, and more than 50 sample colorways before finalizing the design. According to APL Co-Founders Ryan Goldston and Adam Goldston, “Over the past two years, the APL and McLaren teams have collaborated on countless design sketches, many different construction techniques, extensive product testing, and rounds of samples to create the most unique performance shoe the market has ever seen.”

Starting this week, the APL McLaren HySpeed are available for men and women in five eye-popping colorways: White/McLaren Orange, White/Black/Ombre, Rose Dust/Creme, Energy/Metallic Silver, and (our favorite) McLaren Orange. The limited-edition performance runners are APL’s priciest in-line product ever, retailing for $450 directly through Athletic Propulsion Labs and the APL Flagship Store Experience in Los Angeles. They can also be found at other premier retailers, including Luisa Via Roma, Net-A-Porter, Mr. Porter, Level Shoes, FWRD, and Pedder Group.
It might be McLaren’s first footwear collaboration. But the official press release hints that it’s just the beginning of this exciting new partnership with APL.
